Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 August 2026 · Available in EN / IT / ES

This Privacy Policy explains how Alessio Giordano (“SplitNow”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the SplitNow mobile application and related services (the “Service”).

By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. For questions, contact us at a.giordanodev@gmail.com.

1. Who we are

The data controller for personal data processed through the Service is Alessio Giordano Contact: a.giordanodev@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use SplitNow, we may process:

  • Account data — such as name, email address, and authentication identifiers when you sign up with email or a third-party provider (e.g. Google or Apple Sign In).
  • Profile data — display name, avatar preferences, language, and payment method details you choose to save (e.g. IBAN or payment handles) to share with group members for settling up.
  • Group and expense data — groups you create or join, members, expenses, amounts, categories, settlements, budgets, and related notes you enter.
  • Device and technical data — device type, OS version, app version, push notification tokens, and basic diagnostics needed to operate and secure the Service.
  • Receipt images — only if you use receipt scanning. Images may be sent to our cloud recognition provider to extract amount, date, and category suggestions.
  • Premium status — whether a group has an active Premium period and related expiry, so we can unlock shared Premium features. We do not currently process payments or store payment-card data.

3. Guest and offline use

You may use SplitNow in guest / local mode without creating an account. In that case, group and expense data may remain stored primarily on your device. If you later create an account or sync, data may be uploaded to our servers so you can collaborate with other members.

4. Biometrics

If you enable biometric lock (Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint), authentication is performed by your device’s operating system. We do not collect, store, or receive your biometric data. We only receive a success/failure result from the OS biometric APIs.

5. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Provide, sync, and improve group expense splitting and balances;
  • Authenticate users and secure accounts;
  • Send optional push reminders about open balances (with your permission);
  • Unlock group Premium features when members earn days (invites, sharing) as described in the app;
  • Provide receipt suggestions when you choose to scan a receipt;
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect against abuse or fraud;
  • Respond to support requests you send us.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use third-party advertising trackers inside the app for interest-based ads.

6. Legal bases (EEA/UK where applicable)

Where GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on:

  • Contract — to provide the Service you request;
  • Legitimate interests — security, product improvement, fraud prevention;
  • Consent — where required (e.g. certain notifications or optional features);
  • Legal obligation — when we must retain or disclose information by law.

7. Sharing and processors

We share data only as needed to operate the Service, including with:

  • Group members — expenses, balances, and profile details you share within a group;
  • Infrastructure providers — e.g. authentication, database, and push delivery services;
  • AI / OCR providers — when you scan a receipt, the image may be processed to extract structured fields;
  • Authorities — if required by law or to protect rights and safety.

Processors act on our instructions and are required to protect your information appropriately.

8. International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries outside your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for transfers of personal data.

9. Retention

We retain account and group data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data subject to legal retention requirements and data still needed for other group members’ legitimate use of shared records.

Receipt images used for scanning are processed to fulfill the scan request and are not kept longer than necessary for that purpose and operational security.

10. Security

We implement technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal data, including encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please protect your device and credentials.

11. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data;
  • Restrict or object to certain processing;
  • Data portability;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

To exercise these rights, email a.giordanodev@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

12. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

13. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
