Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the SplitNow mobile application and related services (the “Service”) operated by Alessio Giordano (“SplitNow”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

SplitNow helps groups track shared expenses, calculate balances, and settle amounts. Optional Premium tools (for example exports, advanced analytics, and manual reminders) may unlock for a group when members earn Premium days as described in the app. Receipt scanning is optional and may be available with a daily allowance.

SplitNow is a coordination tool. We are not a bank, payment institution, or money transmitter. Settlements between users happen outside SplitNow (e.g. bank transfer, PayPal, cash) using details members choose to share.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum legal age in your country) to use the Service. By using SplitNow you represent that you meet this requirement and have the capacity to enter into these Terms.

3. Accounts and guest mode

  • You may use a guest / local mode or create an account (email or supported social login).
  • You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for activity under your account.
  • Provide accurate information and keep it updated.
  • You may enable optional biometric lock on supported devices; biometrics are handled by your OS.

4. Groups and user content

You and other members create groups, expenses, notes, and related content (“User Content”). You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant SplitNow a limited license to host, process, display, and sync User Content solely to operate the Service.

You agree not to:

  • Upload unlawful, harmful, or infringing content;
  • Harass others or misuse reminders/notifications;
  • Attempt to access other users’ data without authorization;
  • Reverse engineer, disrupt, or overload the Service;
  • Use the Service for fraud or money-laundering schemes.

Group organizers and members are responsible for the accuracy of expenses and settlements. SplitNow does not mediate disputes between members.

5. Premium features

Some features (for example restoring deleted expenses, exports, manual reminders, and advanced insights) require an active group Premium period. SplitNow currently has no in-app purchases or payment forms. You earn Premium days for the whole group by inviting new members or sharing as described in the app, subject to the limits shown there.

If paid Premium plans are offered later, prices and terms will be shown in the app and in an updated version of these Terms before any charge.

6. Receipt scanning

Receipt scanning is an optional feature that may send an image to a cloud recognition service to suggest expense fields. Suggestions can be wrong; you must verify amounts and details before saving. Do not scan documents containing sensitive data you are not authorized to process.

7. Notifications

With your device permission, we may send local or push notifications (e.g. balance reminders). You can disable notifications in system settings.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including software, branding, and design, is owned by Alessio Giordano or its licensors. These Terms do not grant you any ownership rights in the Service beyond a personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to use it as intended.

9. Privacy

Our collection and use of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that balances, calculations, exchange rates, or receipt suggestions will be error-free or uninterrupted.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALESSIO GIORDANO SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR PREMIUM IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) EUR 50.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SplitNow from claims arising out of your User Content, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

13. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, create risk for others, or if we discontinue the Service. You may stop using the Service at any time and may request account deletion via the app or by contacting us.

14. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may modify the Service or these Terms. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the new Terms.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence apply. Courts of competent jurisdiction in Italy shall have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer venue rights.
